The community skin health service is a consultant led service available to patients who are registered with a GP in East and North Hertfordshire. The team consists of specialist dermatology doctors, GPs with special interest in dermatology, healthcare assistants and administrative support.
The skin health service provides assessment, diagnosis and treatment of a range of skin conditions in community clinics. The clinics are held across East and North Hertfordshire in GP surgeries, health centres and community hospitals.
We offer both a dermatology and minor surgery service and treat people aged 16 and above. We work closely with hospital dermatology services, allowing patients easy access to hospital services if required.
The service treats a range of conditions including skin lesions, (lumps and bumps), eczema, psoriasis, fungal infections, acne and rashes.

What will happen at your appointment
Patients are seen by a clinician who will undertake a thorough assessment taking into account previous medical history, medication, the information from the referring GP and the patient’s own description of symptoms plus physical examination.
Treatment options will be discussed.
You may be prescribed treatment or referred for a minor operation and in some cases referred on for hospital assessment.
You may be discharged after the first visit or require a follow up. Once discharged a letter is sent to your GP to inform them of any ongoing treatment and monitoring that you may require from the GP.
If you require minor surgery, the clinician will complete a prior approval request form for funding and a further appointment will be sent to you to attend a minor procedure clinic session.
