Visiting Hours
We welcome and encourage the involvement of carers and relatives whilst the person they care for is in hospital. Involving family and friends in care helps to improve wellbeing, communication and the overall experience. We call this approach Partnership in Care. To enable this we have open visiting hours from 2pm to 7pm so you can be as involved as you would like to be. Let the nurse in charge know if you would like to be involved and you will be provided with a carers lanyard.
Visiting hours are flexible - if you would like to visit outside of these hours, please let the ward manager know.
Travelling by Car
There is some free parking. Otherwise there are public car parks within half a mile.
Travelling by Public Transport
The nearest train station is Welwyn North - though this is a long walk. Buses run nearby.

Compliment received from a daughter about her mother’s care at Danesbury
Mum said it was like going to a hotel. There was a lovely welcome from the sister and staff on duty and a room was already for her.
She was instantly made to feel at home, offered refreshments , tea and dinner .
The next day I telephoned the unit and spoke a young lady Tracey who was the receptionist .She was so kind, helpful , reassuring ,polite and well mannered .She explained to me where the unit was and how best to get there .
I was so upset and besides myself, I will always remember that phone call and that kindness from Tracey.
I visited my mother at Danesbury most days.
I cannot truly and fully explain and express my thanks and eternal gratitude and also that from my mother for the amazing care and treatment at Danesbury.
EVERY SINGLE PERSON in that unit is so important. The team that clean the room and the laundry, always spotless.
The team who organise the meals. Especially Mick, he was so attentive to all the patients and my mother said there was always plenty of food and refreshments with choices every day.
It still brings tears to my eyes when we arrived on Christmas Day and the whole unit was so festive with the dining room decorated , the tables with red tablecloths and presents and music.
All the visitors were also invited to eat with their relatives. It felt as close to a family Christmas as you can get away from home.
The dedication of all the staff there is unbelievable. I watched as they worked tirelessly with some very difficult patients, long shifts , day in, day out.
Day after day I was greeted with smiles and nothing was ever too much. I was allowed to visit anytime, that was a great help as I tried to see my patients in the morning and go over in the afternoon. The rooms were very comfortable. My mother kept saying it was like a hotel. The showers, toilets, dining room were always spotless.
The day room was the centre of activities for the patients. They were treated to unlimited tea, coffee, snacks , newspapers, tv and movies .
My mother made a full recover. She left Danesbury in a taxi, no ambulance, no wheelchair, a walking stick and dignity.
She is now able to do most things for herself and she can walk. In fact the other day I caught her putting the rubbish bins out!!
My mother has asked me to write that the reason she can walk again is due to the dedication and expert treatment every day she received by the Physiotherapists.
I cannot write the words that express my thanks, gratitude and admiration for the whole Physio team, but I must mention David Whitten who was the key lead for my mother and Physios John and Ian. They are such an inspiring, specialised, dynamic team. I saw the changes not only in my own mother but in all the other patients.
Thank you David and your team you are CHAMPIONS.
I know I shouldn't mention any names but I really would like to acknowledge the great care and support from staff nurse Tracey Gordon. She always had the time to make sure everyone was alright. Cheerful, professional, caring, exemplary.
Many thanks to Geraldine and Sandia and Sandra, Sunday and all the male nurses and assistants. Sorry I can't remember your names but I will never forget you.
The lovely young girl who organised the party, she was a great organiser.
I'm afraid those are the names I remember and I don't want to be rude by leaving someone out but I would like to thank all the staff profusely. If it hadn't been for Danesbury my mother would still be in that wheelchair.
I will be writing to the Friends and making a donation to be used for the staff.
