HCT’s career conference for Allied Health Professionals

Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) is holding a career conference for Allied Health Professionals across the Trust this week — we currently have over 600 people employed in an AHP role which includes roles such as speech and language therapists, podiatrists, dietitians, occupational therapists, orthoptists, paramedics and physiotherapists. 
 
The aim of the conference is to inform and raise awareness of the career journeys and pathways available for NHS staff in AHP roles at the Trust.
 
There will be several workshops including:
  • Continuous professional development (CPD), advanced practice and research opportunities – Hearing from AHPs working in clinical research, leadership, and CPD. This workshop provides an overview of the opportunities for professional development at the University of Hertfordshire.
 
  • Preparing for next steps in your career – A reflective workshop reviewing what good looks like in applying and interview for roles.
 
  • HCT career support journeys – A showcase of HCT’s career offers including career coaching, mentoring, Mary Seacole programme, career conversations and “Walk in My Shoes”.
 
One of the guest speakers is Valerie Brown-Beckford, Inclusive Career Development Programme Lead and Training Manager at Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board will be sharing her experiences as an AHP in the NHS and her career journey to date to inspire staff. Valerie was recently shortlisted for two national awards at the Health and Care Awards 2024.in the categories of Educator of the Year and Outstanding BAME Inclusion Achievement of the Year.
 
Other guest speakers include Marion Dunstone, HCT’s Chief Operating Officer who also started her career as an AHP in the NHS.
