HCT ranked 7th best trust nationally in the National Guardian’s Office Freedom To Speak Up Index 2021

The National Guardian’s Office (NGO) has recently published its Freedom To Speak Up (FTSU) Index which has rated HCT as being the seventh best trust nationally in demonstrating a positive speaking up culture. Everyone at HCT will be delighted with this result, especially as has shown an improvement from last year, but we always want to look at ways to improve.

The NGO has used information taken from the 2020 National Staff Survey, specifically looking at staff responses to five questions relating to speaking up, which serve as helpful indicators of the speaking up culture within an NHS organisation. Each trust has been given a percentage score, based on staff responses to these questions. Our staff responses to these five questions have shown that people feel confident to speak up and raise concerns with their line manager or to one of HCT’s FTSU team.

Paul Brown, HCT's Freedom to Speak Up Guardian (Interim) said: "I am constantly amazed how much the staff within HCT care about their patients. ‘Speaking Up’ should never only be about concerns but also ideas about how we can improve and do things better. HCT staff know about their patients and they have ideas that can really make a difference. This is when ‘Speaking Up’ really works.”

‘Speaking Up’ either as a member of staff, patient or family member with a concern or a suggestion to makes things better helps us to keep improving services for our patients and the working environment for our staff.

The most efficient, effective and confidential way to ‘Speak Up’ is to email: hct.speakingup@nhs.net. Thank you for helping us to provide the best possible care for our patients.
