Child Health Information Service (CHIS) expansion for HCT
From today (Friday 1 December), HCT will be delivering the Child Health Information Service (CHIS) across the East of England.
The role of CHIS is to know where every child is and how healthy they are. This involves the monitoring and tracking of public health interventions encompassing immunisations and screening outcomes. To do this CHIS performs the following functions:
- maintains an electronic record of all children and young people aged 0-19 years old, or 0-25 with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), including those with Educational Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and those to whom the local authority has duties, who live in, are registered with a GP in or attend a school in the East of England.
- provides a failsafe function, following up any missed public health interventions and notifying relevant stakeholders when a follow up is required.
- works closely with NHS England, local health providers and public health bodies to identify, inform and support targeted public health initiatives, where appropriate.
As a result of the new contract, HCT now provides CHIS services across Hertfordshire, Essex, Bedfordshire, Luton, Milton Keynes, Norfolk, Suffolk, Cambridgeshire and Peterborough.
