Celebrating staff in estates and facilities

The Estates and Facilities Department is a shared service between Hertfordshire Community NHS Trust (HCT) and Hertfordshire Partnership University Foundation Trust (HPFT).

There are 31 members of staff and several specialist managers and functions including Capital Planning and Management, Property Services, Business Management, Backlog Maintenance, Compliance and a comprehensive facilities service of 10 Facilities Managers. Facilities Managers have a geographical patch and visit each property to support, inspect, audit and monitor condition and standards. This ensures building maintenance is properly undertaken, and that cleaning, catering and support services are operating as expected. The Health and Safety Adviser for HCT is also included in this team.

We work with two main contractors: Mitie, our Soft Facilities provider with 240 staff; and Dalkia, our Hard Facilities provider with 40 staff. We also work collaboratively with Herts County Council, NHS Property Services, and OCS who manage a team of 30.

The geographical area of the Trust consists of 98 sites, 27 inpatient areas, 52 clinics, 14 office bases, two head offices, and three health and wellbeing centres.

The department are also the proud winners of a “Building better healthcare” award for their work on Harper House sensory garden.
