The MSK CATS is a specialist assessment services for musculoskeletal conditions related to bones, joints and muscles. These assessment and diagnostic services allow patients to be signposted to the most appropriate treatment for their condition as quickly as possible. - Hertfordshire Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Service
The Musculoskeletal Physiotherapy Out Patient Service provides specialist community based Physiotherapy assessment and treatment for people with a musculoskeletal conditions and aims to help resume and maintain activity and independence in daily life at work, home and during leisure.
You may have the opportunity to work with other Teams in our service (Triage or Pain Service) and to participate in lower limb or back classes on or off site in the community.

Dress code/uniform
Please wear your student uniform: polo shirts / tunics, blue trousers and trainers.
Recommended pre-placement reading
Please read – subjective examination from Maitland vertebral / peripheral manipulation: Management of neuromusculoskeletal disorders.
Please also read Red Flags: A guide to identify serious pathology of the spine and be aware of red flag questioning.
Preparing for your placement
Please contact you practice educator 4 weeks before the placement is due to start if possible. You can find out about first day reporting instructions, parking details, placement working hours and refreshment availability. If you have a smartcard, please let your practice educator know in case this needs to be activated for the placement duration.
What to bring on your first day
- Student ID card
- Stationery such as a note book and pen
- Smartcard (if you have one)
- Lunch
What to expect on your first day
You will have an induction, local goal setting with your supervisor and initial shadowing of Physiotherapy clinics.
